Tutorial 19 · Advanced logic
Nested All/Any conditions
Combine a required condition with an alternative group: the respondent must be a customer AND give a recommendation score of 9 OR 10.
1. Prepare the survey
Open a practice survey from Home and click Edit. Add these pages and questions in the order shown. Click a question type in the builder palette, then select the question to edit its label and choices. Use Add Page for later pages.
| Page | Question | Type and setup |
|---|---|---|
| Customer feedback | Are you a customer? | Single choice · Optional initially · Choices: Yes, No |
| Customer feedback | How likely are you to recommend us? | Numeric rating (NPS) · Optional initially · Use the 0–10 scale |
| Customer feedback | Tell us what went well | Text box · Optional initially |
2. Configure the logic
Set the outer group
Choose Show or hide questions. Keep Match as All conditions. Set Are you a customer? to equals Yes.
Add a nested group
Open Advanced conditions and click Add group. Inside the new group set Match to Any condition. Select How likely are you to recommend us?, equals, 9.
Add the second acceptable score
Inside the nested group click Add condition. Choose the same rating question, equals, 10. The inner group now means 9 OR 10; the outer group still requires a customer answer of Yes.
Choose the follow-up
Click Next. Set Show question → Tell us what went well. Leave Otherwise empty.
Review the grouping
Click Next. Read the parentheses in the condition summary and try sample answers. Save and publish only when the intended grouping is clear.
3. Review the logic flow
Read the final flow before saving. For conditional rules, YES means the condition matches and NO means it does not. An unanswered source can leave the rule waiting. Use Try answers when it is available, or Back to adjust the setup. View full survey flow provides the surrounding page order and saved rules.
4. Save and publish
Save the reviewed logic
On the final wizard step, click Save logic. Your changes join the survey draft. If the tutorial creates more than one rule or setting, complete and save every part before publishing.
Confirm the draft is saved
Close Logic. Wait for the builder’s save/sync status to complete. You can reopen Logic to check the saved rule or setting. Save logic does not by itself update the public survey.
Publish the survey
Click Publish in the builder, then Publish Now in the confirmation. Use the public link to test the published survey. After later edits, publish again before checking the live result.
Test in a fresh respondent tab
Start with a fresh public survey tab. If you already had an older published version open, reload and start a new response. Use a practice survey for test submissions.
5. Test the respondent experience
Run both the matching and alternative cases. Change answers and revisit earlier pages where the test asks you to, rather than testing only one path.
| Try this | Expected result |
|---|---|
| Customer Yes, rating 9 or 10 | The follow-up appears. |
| Customer No, rating 10 | The follow-up stays hidden because the outer customer condition fails. |
| Customer Yes, rating 8 | The follow-up stays hidden. |
| Customer Yes, rating unanswered | The rule waits for the rating answer. |
Common mistakes and useful limits
- Do not set the outer group to Any condition; that would allow either a customer answer or a high score on its own.
- The Add condition and Add group controls apply to the group they are inside.
Current limits
- Nested conditions are limited to five levels. Keep groups as shallow as possible for easy review.
