Tutorial 17 · Advanced logic
Scoring and a score-based ending
Assign points to choices and use the total to select an ending. This example finishes early for a high confidence score.
1. Prepare the survey
Open a practice survey from Home and click Edit. Add these pages and questions in the order shown. Click a question type in the builder palette, then select the question to edit its label and choices. Use Add Page for later pages.
| Page | Question | Type and setup |
|---|---|---|
| Confidence | How confident are you? | Single choice · Optional initially · Choices: Very confident, Somewhat confident, Not confident |
| Additional support | What support would help? | Text box · Optional initially |
2. Configure the logic
Create choice points
Choose Calculate a score. Click Add score and name it Confidence score. Click Add score question and choose How confident are you?. Set Very confident to 5, Somewhat confident to 2, and Not confident to 0.
Save the score first
Click Next, review the score inputs and Save logic. This makes Confidence score available as a condition source.
Create the score condition
Choose Finish or screen out a respondent. In When choose Confidence score, set Condition to greater than, Compare with to A value, and Value to 3. Click Next.
Choose the ending and timing
Set Action to Complete survey. Enter Your confidence score is high. Thank you! in Message. Set Evaluate navigation when leaving to Confidence explicitly because the condition uses a score rather than a source question.
Review the branch
Click Next. Use Try answers to select a confidence answer. The total is calculated from the sample choice. Save logic and publish after checking the threshold.
3. Review the logic flow
Read the final flow before saving. For conditional rules, YES means the condition matches and NO means it does not. An unanswered source can leave the rule waiting. Use Try answers when it is available, or Back to adjust the setup. View full survey flow provides the surrounding page order and saved rules.
4. Save and publish
Save the reviewed logic
On the final wizard step, click Save logic. Your changes join the survey draft. If the tutorial creates more than one rule or setting, complete and save every part before publishing.
Confirm the draft is saved
Close Logic. Wait for the builder’s save/sync status to complete. You can reopen Logic to check the saved rule or setting. Save logic does not by itself update the public survey.
Publish the survey
Click Publish in the builder, then Publish Now in the confirmation. Use the public link to test the published survey. After later edits, publish again before checking the live result.
Test in a fresh respondent tab
Start with a fresh public survey tab. If you already had an older published version open, reload and start a new response. Use a practice survey for test submissions.
5. Test the respondent experience
Run both the matching and alternative cases. Change answers and revisit earlier pages where the test asks you to, rather than testing only one path.
| Try this | Expected result |
|---|---|
| Very confident → 5 points | The button changes to Submit; clicking it takes the high-score completion path. |
| Somewhat confident → 2 points | Next continues to Additional support. |
| Not confident → 0 points | Zero is a valid score and follows the lower-score route. |
Common mistakes and useful limits
- Create and save the score before trying to select it as a rule source.
- For score-only navigation, select an explicit source page. Otherwise the app cannot know when the destination should run.
